Today we remember the Great Storm in the Year of Bone Shadows. It is also the day St. Heronius had a vision. It is the Feast Day of St. Bloodsong, and in the garden, there is a bumper.
Be Safe, and Stay Out of Trouble.
Welcome to the Hidden Almanac, I’m Reverend Mord.
Today is June 5th, 2015.
It was on this day in the Year of Bone Shadows that a storm crashed into the beaches of Echo Harbor, eroding large quantities of sand and throwing things from the deep ocean far up on shore. Few of these were pleasant to look up. Several prominent citizens engaged in the clean-up, which involved throwing the things back, occasionally with apologies.
And it was on this day in the eleventh century that Saint Heronius received his vision of the lord in the form of a flaming yo-yo. His conversion was immediate, but his feast day falls instead upon the anniversary of his martyrdom at the hands of aggrieved citizens.
It is the Feast Day of Saint Bloodsong, patron of Beloved Pets. Saint Bloodsong grew up in Ulthar and made it her mission to help those families who lost cats to disease or old age. A small black flag tacked to the door was a signal for her and she would arrive with a hand-carved box, to either bury or hold ashes. If the grieving family wished cremation, she would take the body back to her house and use the old kiln in her back yard. She lived on the edge of town for a reason. Saint Bloodsong would also perform this sacred duty for travelers who lost dogs, cats, birds, pigs and pet fish. The pet octopus took a very special box and the body was rather ripe before it was ready. She never had a pet of her own, but it was said the spirits of certain pets would stay with her until they were Absolutely Certain their humans would survive without them.
Saint Bloodsong is portrayed as a woman in her thirties, holding a carved wooden box. A transparent cat sometimes snuggles into the crook of her arm and a transparent dog sits on her left.
In the garden, the CharmX people have finally tried to open the sealed slab in the pit. They hooked several grapples underneath the edge of the stone and then attached ropes to their back bumper and drove the van away at high speed. This tore the bumper off the van. They received a lengthy lecture from Intern Steve about the proper use of hitches, and have gone away to fix their van.
Intern Steve has been excused from weeding duty for the day.
