SummaryEdit

Today we remember a cause of laughter in Echo Harbor. It is the Feast Day of St. Erasmus, and in the garden, it is unbearably hot.

Be Safe, and Stay Out of Trouble.

TranscriptionEdit

Welcome to the Hidden Almanac, I’m Reverend Mord.

Today is June 24th, 2015.

It was on this day in the Year of Burning Orchids that unpleasant laughter began to come up through the drains of the village of Echo Harbor. It persisted at such length that plumbers had to be dispatched, followed by more plumbers, followed by sewer workers, followed by mercenaries. Eventually the source was traced to the caverns underneath Echo Harbor, and a trick of acoustics that was causing the laughter from below to enter the sewer system. Several prominent citizens gave their lives to close the breach, as the thing beneath had been fattened on the blood of plumbers. It is probably still there, but compared to the things you could worry about in Echo Harbor, it is a minor concern.

It is the Feast Day of Saint Erasmus of Gant, a rather unpopular saint of the late 16th century. He enjoyed finding people who were unhappy and then bringing someone more unfortunate to prove that the first person should be grateful for their blessings. As one’s unhappiness is rarely improved by suddenly being inundated with orphans and lepers, he is not widely worshiped today.

In the garden…well. All the interns have vanished overnight, except for Intern Steve. It is easy to guess where they went. The CharmX people are useless. I have pointed out that their contract requires them to pay for any damages arising from their drilling operations. They are trying to argue that there have been no damages, that the sealed stairway was a pre-existing fault with the property, and anyway, since we do not pay the interns, we cannot place a monetary value on losing them. They refuse to mount a rescue operation, despite the interns having rescued one of their co-workers earlier.

Intern Steve picked up one of the CharmX people and shook him. We do not approve of violence here at the Hidden Almanac, so after about five minutes, I made him stop.

On the other hand, the heat wave has continued unabated. I had to refill the frog pond. It is ridiculously hot. At least it is probably cooler in the pit, and one hopes the interns are appreciating it. The eldritch singing has begun, although that may be the interns singing Kumbayah. George is distressed and keeps trying to summon Corvus-Wrax, although I tell him that adding another interdimensional horror will not help the situation.

It is all very vexing.
