Today two professors from the Ravencoast School of Divinity emerged into the light. There were also wasps. It is the Feast Day of St. Alder, and we’ll know more about the garden soon.
Be Safe, and Stay Out of Echo Harbor.
Welcome to the Hidden Almanac, I’m Reverend Mord.
Today is July 22nd, 2015.
It was on this day that two professors from the Ravencoast School of Divinity, having endured long trials underground, and the even greater trial of one another’s company—
RM: --emerged from the great staircase into the woods near Echo Harbor.
PD: How can you tell we’re near there?
RM: There is a paper wasp nest ten yards in that direction that has been built in the shape of a cathedral hung with whale skeletons.
PD: That’s Echo Harbor all right! I’d know that folksy down-home taint of unspeakable evil anywhere. Have we got all the interns out of the pit?
RM: All except for the xenoanthropology student.
IT: Um, the wasps are speaking to me, sir…
RM: They do that.
If we strike out to the southeast, we should encounter a road. Then we can begin walking.
PD: Walking nothing. I’m calling a cab. And maybe ordering a pizza.
IT: I live to serve the Hive Undying…I think.
RM: We will get you some sugar water shortly.
PD: I’ll add that to the pizza order.
It is the Feast Day of Saint Alder the Penniless, patron of merchants who have lost everything and rebuilt. Saint Alder took no vows of poverty, but achieved it organically through poor business decisions. He eventually took vows, bankrupted his order, and joined the Order of Saint Audrey, where he was made a lay brother and kept far from the accounting books. He is represented as a starving man holding an empty purse, from which moths are flying.
In the garden, I hope to know more soon.
PD: You feeling better, Mord? After…you know…the thing?
I feel fine.
PD: You did that on purpose!
RM: The Hidden Almanac is brought to you by Red Wombat Tea Company, purveyors of fine and inaccessible teas. Red Wombat --- “We Dig Tea.”
Also brought to you by that persistent buzzing sound. It supports community radio. So should you.
That’s the Hidden Almanac for July 22nd, 2015. Be safe, and stay out of trouble.
