Today we continue our discussion with Pastor Drom about her impending martyrdom. Is is the start of Fall planting season, and in the garden, there are bulbs.

Be Safe, and Stay Out of Trouble.

Welcome to the Hidden Almanac, I’m Reverend Mord.

Today is September 11th, 2015.

PD: Hi everybody! I’m Pastor Drom! And apparently I’m about to be hideously martyred!

RM: We do not know when you are going to be martyred, Drom, only that you will be. It could be many years from now. You could be in your nineties.

PD: That’s not as far off as it used to be, Mord.

RM: Indeed. Nevertheless, we should not rush into anything. Attempting to change the future has a tendency to bring it into being. Let us not forget Oedipus Rex.

PD: My parents are dead. I couldn’t marry one and kill off the other even if I wanted to.

RM: Then let us not forget zombie Oedipus Rex.

PD: Eww.

RM: I suspect that you are safe for the time being. You are in no current danger of canonization. I suggest you avoid working miracles or committing wholesome deeds until we have gotten to the bottom of this.

PD: …was that an insult, Mord? Are you saying that I’m not good enough to be a saint right this minute?

RM: It was an observation. This is probably not the best time to found a soup kitchen.

PD: I founded one of those once.

RM: Did you really.

PD: You don’t know everything about me, Mord. I have hidden depths. I could be a saint right now. Look at the holiness just coming out of me.

RM: There is certainly something coming out of you.

PD: Yeah, yeah. What are you going to do about your crow? He could go summon Corvus-Wrax at us.

RM: I am going to give him Cheetos. The good kind. And then I am going to scratch his head. George is an excellent crow.

PD: Oh, that’s real helpful.

RM: And then I shall begin looking more deeply into the question of Corvus-Wrax’s servants. Despite the fact that it is fall and my attention is required for planting.

PD: Try to fit me in around the bulbs and radishes and whatnot, that’s all I ask.

RM: Indeed.

In the garden, we are indeed considering fall bulbs, although it is not yet cool enough to plant them. We have had disappointing luck with at least one variety planted last year. The primary disappointment is that they have not flowered, which means that we have no way of determining what exactly we planted. The record-keeping got a little muddled last fall, with the crows and the chanting and so forth.

PD: Don’t remind me!

RM: The Hidden Almanac is brought to you by Red Wombat Tea Company, purveyors of fine and inaccessible teas. Red Wombat --- “We Dig Tea.”

Also brought to you by the Echo Harbor Book of the Soil. The dark heralds raise their trumpets. There is smoke on the wind. The seed catalog is coming.

That’s the Hidden Almanac for September 11th, 2015. Be safe, and stay out of trouble.
