Toady is All Souls Day. We remember those who have moved on from this realm into the next, and in the garden, there are leaves.
Be Safe, and Stay Out of Trouble.
Welcome to the Hidden Almanac, I’m Reverend Mord.
Today is November 2nd, 2015.
It is All Souls Day. Depending on one’s particular faith, this may be known as the Hallowtide, or the Commemoration of the Faithful Departed. It honors those who have passed on, particularly family members. In many traditions, one takes today to visit the graves of departed family, to bake cakes that are left out for consumption by the dead, and to ring bells to bring comfort to those lost in the afterlife. The faithful dead are believed to be friendly, as they presumably were in life. One supposes that it depends on what sort of family you have. There are some relations that one must imagine not even death could improve significantly.
In the garden, we are holding a memorial service. It has been a year since the heroic sacrifice of Keith the copyeditor. The Ancient Order of Linguists has sent a representative to honor him. The interns have candles, and I have said a few carefully punctuated words. Pastor Drom is unwilling to leave the basement at this time, but has paid for the libations and made a donation in his name on behalf of the station.
It is a gray day, and the leaves are the brightest thing about it. As we do not quite know how to honor George’s family, we have made a small offering of Cheetos and I have placed a candle on his behalf. We have also placed candles for the many interns lost in the past year. May they find peace and gainful employment in the next world.
The Hidden Almanac is brought to you by Red Wombat Tea Company, purveyors of fine and inaccessible teas. Red Wombat --- “We Dig Tea.”
Also brought to you by all of us at the Hidden Almanac Test Garden. May this season bring you kind memories of those who have gone before us. That which is loved endures, even if we are not always wise enough to see it. May the peace of the Madonna of Leaves be with you all.
That’s the Hidden Almanac for November 2nd, 2015. Be safe, and stay out of trouble.
