September 30th is the Feast Day of Saint Mellivora of the Miraculous Sausage, a saint of obscure origin and even more obscure appearance. He appears as a honey badger holding a large red bratwurst and is considered to be one of the patrons of sausage makers, as well as beekeepers and, for some reason, professional dowsers. Bratwurst makers, however, eschew the worship of St. Mellivora in favor of St. Ungo the Well-Endowed, for reasons that we will not get into here.
No one has ever determined what was so miraculous about this particular sausage.
His Feast Day is an important milestone in the paprika season, as it is the day the plants are harvested.
