April 22 is the Feast Day of Saint Norvus, patron of window-washers. It seems like there should be a story there, but hagiographers have been unable to find one. It seems to trace back to a single icon painted nearly two hundred years ago, featuring a tonsured monk holding up a hand to touch that of Saint Bartholomew of Nork, on the other side of what appears to be a pane of glass. Other icons of the era often used this technique to indicate contact with the dead or the divine, however, so it is probably just a case of the powerful window-washers guild wanting their own patron and making one up on the spot.
